Cross-cutting: a profile of the film and television industries

Howard Thomas - Busavannah Communications

In South Africa, the vast majority of people who work in film or television, usually work in the other mediums as well.  There are too few films made in South Africa to support a discreet film industry, so films are usually made by those people who also have a steady income derived from television.

This applies not only to production, artists and crew, but also to the services supplied to film and television such as catering, rental, and transport.

This section is divided into the film and television sectors, but there are cross-references to each other in order to show the unique interlinking of the two sectors in South Africa.
